In my last post, I talked about your human journey, and how a fresh look at the stories of your life can reveal hidden possibilities. You may already have discovered you are simultaneously traveling a second, spiritual journey. This isn’t about being religious. It’s not something you do, but something you are. The human and spiritual paths don’t so much run parallel to each other as they interweave together into one, multidimensional track. Looking at your life stories from this larger perspective can unveil even more amazing opportunities for freedom, creativity, and transformation.
That said, the spiritual journey can be subtle. It takes practice to recognize how it manifests in your daily life. The spiritual journey deals more with feelings than with tangible things. Gut feelings, Intuition, seeming happenstances are examples of what I’m talking about. For example, your friend answers, “Fine,” when you ask “How are you?” Your gut tells you that person isn’t fine, is maybe far from fine. When you respond in an empathetic way, pushing just a little to show you are there if they need you, the conversation may become deeper, more meaningful. You get a glimpse of the spiritual side of your walk together on the path. See! You know what I’m talking about. You’ve been there, too.
Many of us have come to a point in our lives where traditional tenets, rules, and dogma don’t work for us anymore. Still, we have a deep desire to connect to some source of spiritual encouragement and support. There are many resources out there to help you make that connection. My “On The Right Track” workshop is one such resource. It gives you a way to use your own life experiences to reinforce and expand your spiritual journey, enabling your to transform your human journey.
The first step is to recognize the signs of a higher power already at work in the world – your world – today. Call it what you will, it makes no difference. The tack I’m taking is that the stories you remember most readily have a spiritual component in them. It is there for some purpose, specifically for your benefit. Funny thing is that if you don’t recognize it in that adventure, it will keep showing up in others until you do. Trust me! Been there. Done that! Ultimately, for me, it comes down to: “OK! I’ve screwed it up my way! What’s Your way?” Searching your stories for clues is a simple, effective beginning for connecting the spiritual to the human journey.
In my next post, I’ll be looking at fresh ways to define your relationship with your higher power.
